Food Inspections: Gnats & Dirty Bathrooms Found at Mentor Restaurants

Find out which restaurants had the most violations in July.

There are always a few ways to look at the Lake County General Health District's inspection reports with multiple violations.

Inspectors note when food service providers correct their violations on-site, and most of them do—even ones like Heinen's, which had five violations in July.

At times, you can even feel better about a place that had, say, three violations compared to a place that only had one complaint. Especially if that one complaint led to a case of salmonella.

However, some reports are tougher to swallow. In July, violations at Cruisin' 50's Diner and Eat'n Park necessitated future follow-up visits. The inspector at Cruisin' 50's wrote that she observed "an excessive amount of gnats in the dry storage area."

View the Google Fusion table above to make your own decision about the violations and the food service operators' responses to them. The district says full reports should be available online for the public to view in the coming months.

The food service providers each carry a category with a numerical ranking that is indicative of the risk the state believes there is for a patron to become ill. Restaurants are often listed as "C2S" or "C3S" and schools, "N2S" or "N4S," based on size and risk.
