Mentor Increases Grant Maximum for Flood-Impacted Properties

Residents making repairs to protect themselves from future floods can now receive up to $2,500 in reimbursements.

Mentor officials still believe their sewer backup grant program is a Band-Aid, but they made it a little larger Tuesday night.

City Council approved a maximum $2,500 reimbursement to those who want to make improvements to combat sewer backups like the ones that followed the July 20 flood. The maximum amount was previously $1,500.

"This is a big Band-Aid," Councilman Bruce Landeg said, according to a report from The News-Herald. "We're doing something to protect the residents."

The city has received 26 requests so far, according to the report.

City officials have already put pressure on the county to improve its system that especially caused damage to homes immediately north and south of Bellflower Road and east and west of Route 306.
