Mentor Men Arrested for Stealing Scrap Metal, Running from Police

One was arrested after a brief chase, but the other made it home before police caught him.

Two men added to their possible punishment this week when they decided to run from Mentor Police.

Stephen B. Hall, 22, and Michael J. Soder, 19, were arrested at near Air Tool Solutions Co., 7722 Metric Drive, for stealing scrap metal, according to the Mentor Police Department's Facebook page. The Mentor residents were spotted by witnesses on July 8, who called the police.

Both men decided to run from responding officers. One was apprehended after a brief chase, but the other made it back home where he was later arrested.

Both were charged with petty theft, criminal trespass, criminal damaging and obstructing official business. Hall was also charged with resisting arrest. The charges are second-degree misdemeanors, except petty theft, which is a second-degree misdemeanor.

Hall posted his $2,400 bond and pleaded not guilty, according to Mentor Municipal Court records. His pre-trial is scheduled for Aug. 5.
