  • On the article Mentor Residents Talk About Deer Hunting, Culling At City Council Meeting

The ODNR has been shilling for "urban hunting " for years now and the strategy is always the same . Make ridiculous claims about disease and starvation and get the council to pass a bow hunting ordinance. The bow hunters come out claiming they're doing a civic duty by "feeding the hungry ". Baloney ! Theyre looking for trophy heads to mopunt on the wall as I have witnessed in other areas with the heads removed and the carcasses left to rot.
I wish every Mentor resident could witness these animals limping wounded for miles and dying an agonizing death. Its animal cruelty ,pure and simple. By the way , there is absolutely no scientific evidence in Ohio of deer starving so that nonsense needs to stop now.

This whole debate about the "heard " has been one big charade. This supposed 5 part plan could have been concocted by a grade school class. Police "sharpshooters" ??? What an oxymoron ! Anyone who has witnessed this kind of police action knows what I'm talking about. Its been tried elsewhere with disastrous results.
Why are animal haters always the loudest whiners ?

Jen, you are absolutely correct. I have followed this issue in numerous suburbs and it invariably breaks down three ways. Those who don't want to see wildlife harmed, the hunters who want to kill deer for sport and the rest who are totally confused.
Incidentally, the term "deer tick " isn't even used by biologists any more . They're called black legged ticks because they are spread by other animals besides deer including your favorite fido.

Funny though how hunters get "offended" when you call them out but they have no problem slaughtering animals including fawns. Apparently ,thats not offensive to anyone but those crazy PETA people.

Why is it every hunter in Ohio drones on with the same old song which is a bunch of hooey anyway ? Yeah, typhus ,. There's a real threat. Lyme disease is spread by rodents not deer. Your pet hunting dog is just as likely to be carrying them. Maybe we should have open season on dogs.
Fortunatly, Avon will decide a solution based on reality and not the mindless drivel that shows up in these posts.

For Leiken to state that to trap and bolt these deer is the only solution only exhibits the usual ignorance of public officials on this issue. The animal control guy, Greg Miller, is an overpaid simpleton who seems to delight in slaughtering wildlife. Why has this scenario been repeated throuhgout the state the past year ? Thank ODNR.

Brilliant ! This whole sham started with bow hunting and it will end up with bow hunting ;just as ODNR wanted. The "Urban Hunting" program puts the loot in their coffers and thats what this is really about. They could care less about safety. If they did , you'd see a lot more Streiter lights which are proven effective and can even be had at little cost through NOACA. Why didn't council even consider this ? , No, instead they all line up to bring in the goons from Wildlife Services who have a bad rep a mile long. Apparently Solon likes to blow large wads of cash on pointless programs.

ODNR has stated publicly on many occasions that they will never approve birth control for deer. It would cut down on the number of targets for hunters thus reducing hunting revenue which would be contrary to their mission. I'm sure Mrs. Fenderbosch is aware of this . Why she would introduce this topic at this stage is anybody's guess. Probably to defer attention from her proposals to bring bow hunting to Avon Lake. Her agenda seems a little muddled.

Just to clarify; Councilwoman Fenderbosch did the count for ODNR and she and her husband have been bow hunting advocates for years. She's hardly an objective or scientific population analyst.

Gee, maybe Hromco could be Solon's "Greatest Person". It takes a lot of talent to oversee official Federal cretins killing domesticated deer. From what I've heard they had a heck of a time finding 300 so they borrowed some from surrounding areas. And to finish the job they shipped off the lead poisoned meat to the hungry. Nice job boys !

Who could possibly guarantee that hunting within a residential area woud be SAFE ? That indicates a certain level of ignorance in itelf. We know that when White Buffalo was here a woman had her car window shot out and was persuaded not to prosecute. We know that poaching is rampant throughout the area and that most definitly is NOT safe.Every year hunters shoot each other and innocent bystanders and then deny there is a safety issue. The only shame is on them and their defenders.
