1. WINTER WEAVE Where/when: Wildwood Cultural Center, during regular hours, Monday through Friday. Why go: Got something to carry? Looking for a cool decoration? The Wildwood Basketry Guild is encouraging you to make your own using its instruction. The group will provide basket-weaving demonstrations to visitors all weekend. Classes are by pre-registration. Wildwood Cultural Center is hosting its 33rd holiday display and craft show Sunday
You hear those footsteps? That's the sound of the holidays approaching quickly. If you're still looking for some creative gift choices, come to the 33rd annual Holiday Display and Craft Show this Sunday at Wildwood Cultural Center. More than 25 local artists and crafters will sell unique holiday gifts, including wreaths, ornaments, jewelry, baked goods and wood crafts. Additionally, Wildwood Garden Club will sell a live greenery, floral arrangements and centerpieces. The Wildwood Singers will also perform holiday music at 2 p.m. Guests can also tour the park's grounds and its beautiful Tudor manor home. The craft show costs $1 to enter.

The show is presented by the Wildwood Quilt Guild
The Wildwood Quilt Guild will present the Annual Quilt Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundat at the Mentor Senior Center. A $3 donation is requested at the door. You can see the display of award-winning quilts made by the members of the guild and shop for holiday gifts, as well. The quilts for sale have been made by guild members, as well as several local shops. People can also buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the quilts. Any brides- and grooms-to-be who are looking for ideas for their big day can consult with the experts Sunday in Mentor. That is when the city of Mentor will host its 23rd Annual Fall Bridal Gala at noon at the Comfort Inn Hotel. More than 30 exhibitors will be assembled to give brides all the news on what is new in bridal fashion, travel and wedding planning. Ladies & Gentlemen Salon & Day Spa will be demonstrating the newest hair and makeup styles for brides between 1 and 2 p.m. on the gala's center stage. Expressions Bridal & Formal Wear and Jesse Webb Entertainment will present a fashion show that begins at 3 p.m. in the hotel's main hall. People can see the winning pieces of artwork in The Dorothy McNamara Maloney Memorial Art Contest at the Mentor Senior Center
The city of Mentor's Wildwood Cultural Center and Community Arts Commission recently announced the winning pieces of art in the annual The Dorothy McNamara Maloney Memorial Art Contest of Lake County. Sixty-Five artists submitted their work and they will be on display at the Mentor Senior Center on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Oct. 3, 2012. The works can also be viewed on The Mentor Channel 12 in the program Around Town through Oct. 7. Event features pony rides, magic shows, strolling entertainment, animal shows, inflatables, music and fun for the whole family
Wildwood Cultural Center will host its annual Family Fun Day from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday with pony rides, magic shows, music and fun for the whole family. The event is free and families can bring a picnic lunch to enjoy. (Sorry, no grilling allowed.) Refreshments also will be available for purchase. Families can enjoy music from the Larry Smith Express, a strolling magic show and family games including badminton, hula hoops, jump rope, hopscotch, beanbag & ring toss, no-point darts, horseshoes, potato sack races and croquet throughout the day. 1. BROADWAY & BEYOND Where/When: Mentor Fine Arts Center, 7 p.m. Saturday Why Go: A pair of renowned theater entertainers are coming to Mentor to help raise money for the United Way of Lake County. Among the night's performers are Ciarán Sheehan and Sarah Pfisterer, who have starred as the Phantom and Christine Daae, respectively, in more than 1,000 performances of "The Phantom of the Opera." Heather Martin Bixler, a violinist from Wisconsin, and the Murphy Irish Dancers, who just placed fourth in a world dance competition hosted in Ireland, will also perform. The show is just the beginning
When Steve Couch -- the director of the Wildwood Theatre Camp for the last 18 years -- calls the camp a cult, he is only half kidding. The kids who have gone to Couch's camp know that it is a special place with its own quirks, culture and even language. And it certainly has a following. This February, when registration opened for Wildwood Theatre Camp, it only took 15 minutes for all three sessions to fill up and for a waiting list to start accumulating names. That's about 100 kids who were all waiting for the chance to join or return to the cult. "We do a play and that's the highlight," Couch said. Enjoy local artists' work while helping raise scholarship money for the next generation of artists
The Wildwood Fine Arts Festival returns for its 32nd year from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Wildwood Cultural Center. For $2, the public can visit with many of the artists and purchase original works ranging from paintings and carvings to textiles, jewelry, and glass. More than 50 sculptors and painters will display their work this Sunday and much of which will be for sale. Visitors can also enjoy live jazz music, refreshments and free guided tours of the Wildwood Manor House -- one of the most striking historic homes in the area. Proceeds from this festival go to college scholarships for high school seniors from Lake and Geauga Counties who plan to study art. 1. 2012 CARDINAL DASH Where/When: Mentor High School, 9 a.m. Saturday Why Go: Scott Panchik -- a health and physical education teacher at Mentor High -- is competing in the national CrossFit championship this July in Carson, CA. (He is ranked 15th among 45 finalists who were culled from more than 50,000 competitors.) To help raise money for Panchik's trip, the Mentor Redline Club is holding a competition in which people will compete in many of the same events that Panchik has mastered.
