Renovation at Great Lakes Mall Begins Tonight

Mentor mall starts its first renovation since the 1980s with demolition in the Macy's concourse

Great Lakes Mall will begin its first renovation since the 1980s after closing time tonight. Contractors will start the multimillion-dollar project by removing floor tile, column and beam wraps in the Macy's concourse, said Renee Lanzara, the director of marketing for the mall. That will be the first step in an internal makeover that includes: Originally, the mall intended to tile over its existing flooring. However, that plan changed after Doug Thompson, the vice president of the architectural firm behind the redesign, said an unforeseen moisture problem required them to replace the flooring entirely. Of course many feel the mall needs a facelift, it's been a long time coming. More importantly, the main goal is to increase foot traffic which will not happen unless the variety of stores improves and remaining stores, Dillards and Macy's increase and improve their inventory. Shoppers at Great Lakes Mall Give Their Thoughts on Its Renovation

Shoppers tell Mentor Patch what they think of the mall's multimillion-dollar makeover

Great Lakes Mall announced it will spend millions of dollars on its renovation, which is scheduled to begin in mid-April.  Mentor Patch wanted to find out what shoppers think of the mall's plans and what kind of stores they would like to see. Great Lakes Mall Announces Renovation Project

Mentor mall plans to complete enormous redesign by holiday season 2011

Great Lakes Mall has not been remodeled since the 1980s, and Renee Lanzara admits, "It looks like it." "It's been a long time since we've done anything, and we need to keep up with the times," she said. The mall will finally receive a major makeover this year. The renovations will include: Lanzara, the mall's director of marketing and business development, said the renovation will begin in mid-April and be finished by November this year. Lanzara joined the mall team in August, but she said the renovation was planned for years. "We were looking at a renovation of the property in 2008; but, with the economy, plans were put on hold," she said.
