The deadline to join the October show is Sept. 30
Glassblowers, candlemakers, potters and all other types of artists and craftsmen still have time to register for Great Lakes Mall's arts and crafts show. The deadline to sign up for the show, which goes from Oct. 14 to 16, is Sept. 30. Children will get a chance to punch in at the Fun Factory this weekend at Great Lakes Mall. They will have a chance to play interactive games, check out some new toys, rock out to music and more from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Macy's concourse. Variances will allow new signs for the Mentor mall and new automotive store
During its meeting Tuesday at city hall, the Mentor Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance to allow the Great Lakes Mall to install a new freestanding sign on Mentor Avenue, which is part of the mall’s multimillion-dollar renovation project. The new 391-square-foot sign will stand a little over 32 feet in height and replace the existing 305-square-foot sign that is 30 feet tall. A variance was required because city code requires a maximum height for a freestanding sign of 15 feet in height with a maximum area of 120 square feet. The mall also plans to replace its freestanding sign on Johnny Cake Ridge Road with a monument sign, which complies with city code. A Spirit Halloween store has opened in Great Lakes Mall in the Dillard's south concourse. It carries Halloween costumes, decorations and accessories for both people and pets. “We are excited to welcome Spirit Halloween to Great Lakes Mall for the Halloween season,” said Renee Lanzara, the mall's director of marketing. “Fall is a busy time. Shoppers can be assured they will walk away from here happy and ready for a great Halloween.” According to the National Retail Federation, the average person will spend $66 on Halloween. The Mentor Board of Zoning Appeals is scheduled to meet 7 p.m. today at City Hall. One of the items on its agenda pertains to the Great Lakes Mall's ongoing renovations. The mall has requested to have a freestanding sign that is 475 square feet and 32 feet high. Under usual circumstances, the largest freestanding sign allowed for a shopping center the mall's size is 120 square feet and 15 feet tall. The mall already began internal renovations in May. The rock band came to the Mentor Mall as part of the Simon dTour music concert
We the Kings, the pop-punk band who gave the world Check Yes Juliet, performed a free concert Sunday afternoon at Great Lakes Mall. They were the headliners for the Simon dTour mall concert tour. Fans who bought one of the bands' albums from FYE were able to meet the band afterward and get their CD autographed. Before We the Kings performed, teens competed in Glee Karaoke with their favorite songs from Glee. The competitors got T-shirts and the karaoke winner got free Glee DVDs. The singing was just one part of the dTour experience. Great Lakes Mall is looking for high school juniors and seniors to model at its Back to School Fashion Show August 27. The show is sponsored by Ellie Vayo Photography and in partnership with Fashionably Cleveland. Interested teens can apply to model in the event by going to www.fashionablycleveland.com and completing a brief survey. Those selected to model in the show will receive a free photo shoot with Ellie Vayo Photography and the photos will displayed in the mall prior to the event.
