City Of Mentor Looking For Old Photos For Special Video

The city will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a special video and it needs your photos from the 1950s, 60s and 70s

Mentor became a city in 1963 and to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, the city is making a special video for the Mentor Channel. But they need your help to do it. If you have photos of Mentor from the 1950s, 60s or 70s, please email them pohl@cityofmentor.com. Then you can be part of this commemoration. People Can Watch City Council's Deer Discussion On The Mentor Channel

City Council will have additional work sessions regarding deer on Jan. 31 and Feb. 7

People who missed Mentor City Council and the administration's discussion about deer overpopulation Tuesday can watch it in its entirety on The Mentor Channel's web site. In fact, all City Council and Planning Commission meetings are available on demand at www.TheMentorChannel.com. City officials discussed the dangers of deer overpopulation and how deer have affected Mentor on Tuesday. However, they did not make any specific plans for dealing with the situation. Instead, they have scheduled additional work sessions to discuss deer, all of which are open to the public. They are scheduled for Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. in Council chambers in Mentor City Hall.

Mentor Community Television Channels Threatened by State Law

A new bill sponsored by Congressman Steve LaTourette could save the stations if passed

Mentor's community television stations are being threatened by a state law that could eliminate local access, including the city’s PEG (public, education and government) channels. The law would also make it more expensive for local channels to stream local content through cable company lines, such as Time Warner Cable or AT&T. "The PEG channels were granted to cities as a requirement of the Cable Act years ago," said Kathie Pohl, Mentor's director of marketing and community relations and overseer of the Mentor Channel. "We've been operating since 1990, but it was on the air long before that." Directors from Kyrgyz Republic Visiting Mentor

Television and radio directors from Kyrgyz hope to learn from The Mentor Channel

Four directors of television and radio stations from the Kyrgyz Republic will visit Mentor Feb. 1 to learn from the city’s government access channel. The International Visitors Leadership Program organized the trip. “The group really wanted to see a government that used television to link to its city,” said Margarita Shulman, the director of the International Visitors Program for the Cleveland Council of World Affairs. “I did a little research and a lot of people recommended Mentor.” Shulman said she liked how The Mentor Channel made it to easier for people to see its government in action by broadcasting City Council and Planning Commission meetings, as well as other city events.
