Fifteen acts took the stage Monday
It had been a few years since Lake Catholic High School hosted a talent show, and it showed through the audience's enthusiasm. Whether a guitarist or rap group hit the stage, the crowd filled the auditorium with cheers Monday night. The show featured 15 performances that ranged from a Bruno Mars cover to a color guard routine to a touching tribute from junior Michelle Gaw, whose mother recently passed away. Families got into the act, too. The Jones brothers, sophomore Kyle and junior Ian performed a humorous piano act, and the Brennan Singing Trio of sisters Rachel, Veronica and Emma finished the showcase with a song. The bookstore will host a book fair Saturday in which a percentage of their proceeds will go to Lake Catholic High School
Barnes & Noble is holding a book fair Saturday, complete with a Frappuccino-making contest, costume contest, face painting and an appearance by the Lake Catholic Cougar. The fair is a fundraiser for the Lake Catholic library and book club. The bookstore part of the proceeds for all sales in which the person says they are with Lake Catholic. Exactly what percentage the bookstore gives depends on how much money is raised. Every $10 dollars spent will earn patrons a ticket in the fair's Chinese Auction raffles. Prizes include a free tux rental for prom, a free photography session with Plain Dealer featured photographer Lane Baldwin and more. The ball is an opportunity for alumni and their young children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren to have some fun
Lake Catholic High School will host its annual Cinderella & Prince Charming Ball from 6 to 8 p.m. this Friday. The ball is an opportunity for alumni and their young children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren to have some fun. Girls can don their finest princess dresses, dance, enjoy the entertainment and snack on pizza. Jenniffer & Co. will also host a Princess Salon for them. Meanwhile, pirates will lead the boys on a scavenger hunt for treasure. The event is organized by the Lake Catholic student government. Check out photos from past Cinderella balls.

The French, German, Latin, Spanish and Chinese Mandarin clubs competed against each other in dodgeball, tug-of-war, vocabulary, translation and cuisine Tuesday at Lake Catholic High School
The Spanish, French, German, Latin -- and, for the first time, Chinese Mandarin -- students of Lake Catholic High School competed in their annual Language Olympics Tuesday. The language clubs formed teams that played in dodgeball, speedball and tug-of-war tournaments. They also demonstrated their linguistic acumen with vocabulary, translation and cultural quizzes. Additionally, the students cooked dishes from the land of their respective languages' origin, which the teachers ranked. The Language Olympics began in 1988 and have grown more elaborate each year. The students make their own team T-shirts and study hard to win linguistic bragging rights. This year the Olympics also included a tribute to Nancy Germaine, who taught Latin and …

Funeral arrangements are set for the woman who died in a Florida crash
The funeral for Brittney Gallagher will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Vianney Church. Gallagher, 21, died Saturday in a car crash near Ebro, Fla. The 2009 graduate of Lake Catholic High School was the passenger of a 2000 Dodge that the driver, Courtney Miller, lost control, striking a pickup truck. Miller, 21, of Niles, also died in the crash. McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes is handling the funeral services for Gallagher. Her family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home at 6330 Center Street.
