City Council To Discuss Deer Hunting Ordinance At Work Session, Meeting

The city will discuss the recently proposed legislation that would allow bow hunting of deer in Mentor

Mentor City Council will revisit a piece of proposed legislation today that, if passed, would allow for the bow hunting of deer in the city. The ordinance is on the schedule to be discussed at a work session 5:30 p.m. today at City Hall. It is also on the agenda for the Council meeting at 7 p.m. However, Council may choose not to vote on it tonight. Earlier this year, Council gave the city administration permission to pursue the permits needed to get a Deer Management Plan approved by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. This latest ordinance is only part of the city's ultimate plan and not its totality, city officials said. Gander Mountain To Talk Urban Deer Hunting At Mentor Library

Get tips from the pros during this free event

Gander Mountain will conclude its seminar series with a talk on urban deer hunting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the main branch of the Mentor Public Library. The pros will offer tips on deer hunting and tree stand setups. A representative of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will also be at the meeting to answer questions regarding urban deer hunting regulations and safety requirements. (It's illegal to hunt deer in Mentor but that may change in the near future.) The seminar is free. However, those interested are asked to register for the event. Big Business & More Questionable Parenting: A Week In Review

1. This has been a big week for business in the city of Mentor. JE Pistons announced it will move its advanced manufacturing center, along with more than 100 jobs, from Huntington Beach, CA, to Mentor. Mentor City Council approved a land sale that will allow Penske Automotive to build an Audi dealership on Market Street. Finally, the Council also voted for an incentive grant that will not only keep Cleveland Construction's headquarters in Mentor but also help it expand. 2. Unfortunately, last week's trend of questionable parenting has persisted into this week. Kevin Payerchin, 27, of Mentor, was sentenced to six months in jail after he left a baby alone in a hot car. Library, Gander Mountain Team For Seminar Series On Outdoors

Hunters, fishers and outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy this new series from Mentor Public Library and Gander Mountain

Mentor Public Library and Gander Mountain have teamed to put on a new summer seminar series for hunting and fishing enthusiasts. The seminar series will begin Thursday, June 21 at 6:30 p.m. All seminars will be in the main branch's James R. Garfield Room. The first seminar in the series will present tips on Lake Erie fishing and lure selection, as well as approaches to walleye fishing and trolling techniques. All of the seminars are free to attend but registration is required for each.
