Lake Metroparks also recently launched its online fishing report
Fishing at Granger Pond in Veterans Park just got a little bit easier. Lake Metroparks restocked the pond with 950 pounds of rainbow trout Thursday morning. The fish averaged about two pounds each and appeared healthy. The park systems' restocking program costs about $3,600 annually but they are able to offset that expense with donations from both the Ohio Central Basin Steelheaders and from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History's Trout Club. Additionally, Lake Metroparks recently started an online fishing report, in which anglers can see what people are catching and where in the county. Veterans Park is open for fishing year round. However, people do need a fishing license from the state.

All the money from the run and walk will go to the All Saints School of St. John Vianney, which Kline founded
All Saints School of St. John Vianney is holding its inaugural Father Robert Kline 5K and 1-Mile Family Fun Run this Saturday at Veterans Park in Mentor. Rev. Kline founded the school in 1977 so the parents at All Saints wanted to do something in his honor after he passed away last year. "Father Kline was very dedicated, not only to our school, but to our parish," All Saints Principal Rose Wilson said. "He even taught at the parish until two months before he died. He was 87 years old and still teaching." All the proceeds from the run will go to All Saints School. "He was very well loved and we miss him and this felt like a good way to honor him," Wilson said of Kline and the race. If someone would like to find out more about the race or …

Mentor City Council and administration invited professionals from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Lake Metroparks and Cleveland Metroparks to their second work session on deer overpopulation Tuesday. Representatives from each organization agreed deer were a problem, both in Mentor and the region. "We have 39 nature preserves," said James Bissell, the coordinator of natural areas for the CMNH. "Mentor Marsh is one of 39. All together the museum has 5,200 acre and we have deer problems everywhere." Bissell said the deer ravaged the marsh's unique undergrowth. Then local animals -- who would otherwise live in the swamp forest like wood thrushes, oven birds, hooded warblers and more -- no longer had a place to live. Additionally, it …

A lot of places hire before and during the holiday season but will those jobs still be there in January? Kelly Blazek, our Job Search House Mother, has some leads and full- and part-time jobs that won't disappear after Christmas. They include jobs at the Huntington Bank and Macy's Department Store in Mentor. Check out the full list of jobs on Blazek's blog. 2. Lake Metroparks had added QR (quick response) codes to 28 of its parks, including Veterans Park in Mentor. People can find the QR codes for parks at their information kiosks. To use them, people need a smart phone with a QR code reader. (The i-nigma code reader is free to download.) Using the reader, visitors can pull up the park's website, which will include its history, a list of its features, amenities and trail maps. Watch the video to see John Venen, Lake Metroparks marketing manager, explain how to use QR codes to enrich one's experience at the parks.
