Mentor's Unemployment Rate Dropped In February

After increasing in January, the city's unemployment rate dropped .3 percent to 6.6 percent

After increasing 1.5 percent in January, the city of Mentor's unemployment rate dropped .3 percent to 6.6 percent in February, according to the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services. Last year, the city's unemployment rate was 7 percent in February. The unemployment rate also dropped in Lake County and Ohio in February. Countywide, it dropped .6 percent to 7.4 percent. In Ohio, it decreased .8 percent to 7.6 percent. Mentor still has the fourth lowest unemployment rate for any Ohio city with more than 50,000 residents. The rate increased 1.5 percent to 6.9 percent in Mentor

After having been stable through November and January, the city of Mentor's unemployment rate increased 1.5 percent to 6.9 percent in January, according to the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services. Last year, the city's unemployment rate was 6.8 percent in January -- which is, historically, a seasonal highpoint for the unemployment rate. Both Lake County and the state of Ohio also saw their unemployment rates increase in January 2013. The city of Mentor's unemployment rate stayed at 5.4 percent in December while the rate in Lake County and Ohio went up slightly, according to the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services. The county's unemployment rate went up .2 percent since November to 6.3 percent. Meanwhile, the state's unemployment rate increased .1 percent to 6.6 percent. Mentor's unemployment rate had dropped to 4.6 percent -- its lowest point since Nov. 2007 -- in October. But the rate jumped .8 in November. After five consecutive months of decreased unemployment, the rate rose .8 percent in November

After five months of decline, the unemployment rate in Mentor rose .8 percent to 5.4 percent overall in the month of November, according to the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services. That brings the unemployment rate to very near what it was a year ago in November 2011, which was 5.5 percent. The unemployment rate also rose in Lake County and the state of Ohio this November. In Lake County, the unemployment rate increased 1 percent to 6.1 percent. In Ohio, the percentage increased .2 to 6.5 percent. The city of Mentor still has the lowest unemployment rate for any city in Ohio with a population of 50,000 or more. I agree. The Repubs are quick to use the economy as a lightning rod. Every time I see one of their ads or hear the rhetoric I think about how Mentor is doing. There are job postings everywhere, sold signs on houses, new businesses opening, and our roads/highways are getting repaired. I saw none of this under Bush. It is political.   more ›

The city of Mentor's unemployment rate has dropped to its lowest point since November 2011. The city's rate in August was 5.3 percent -- down from 5.6 percent in July and 5.8 percent in June. This matches the 3-year low it reached in the October and November of 2011. By comparison, the Mentor's unemployment rate was 6.5 percent in August 2011. Meanwhile, Lake County's unemployment rate dropped from 6.2 percent in July 2012 to 6 percent in August. During the same span of time, the state of Ohio's unemployment rate dropped from 7.4 to 6.8 percent. The city of Mentor's unemployment rate dropped 0.2 percent to 5.6 percent in July, switching the momentum from when the city's rate bumped up in June. By comparison, the city's unemployment rate was 6.4 percent in July 2011. While the state of Ohio's unemployment rate remained at 7.4 percent from June to Juley, Lake County's rate dropped from 6.5 percent to 6.2 percent. Mentor also maintained its distinction of having the lowest unemployment rate for any community in Ohio with more 50,000 in population.
