Each week the Mentor Patch Moms Council answers a question on parenthood posed to them by readers or another member of council. This week's question: How do you explain 9/11 -- both what happened and how it felt -- to a child who was born afterward? Jill Korsok: I watched part of a Smithsonian Channel special about that day with my 16-year-old son. Of course he was too young to understand what was happening that day, but he's very familiar with the images, the locations of the attacks and the significance of what happened. Today was probably the first time we had an in-depth discussion. Our conversation and his questions and observations were mostly situational: how did the people caught in the billowing smoke on the ground avoid …

Police officers and firefighters from all around the region joined Lake Catholic students Tuesday morning at the high school for a prayer ceremony commemorating the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11. The students thanked the men and women of the myriad departments (as well as one canine) for their service, as well as those from across the country. The students will also participate in a national program called "For 9/11, I Will." Each student will promise to make a sacrifice or better themselves in honor of those who died 11 years ago.

"He speaks his own language and goes off on tangents most times. He can be redirected and brought back out of his own little world with a little harmony though," she wrote. Knight also wrote about her son's first day of preschool. She feared for the worst but her little Mahna Mahna surprised her. Meanwhile, Mentor Patch's newest blogger, Jim Pelyhes, recounted his first day at the Lake County …

We want to know how your life was impacted by the Sept. 11 attacks and their aftermath
You know where you were on Sept. 11, 2001. You know where you were when you heard about the planes crashing into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. You know where you were and who you were with when you saw the towers fall. And you'll never forget. Everybody has a 9/11 story because nobody was unaffected by the tragedy. And to commemorate those who died in the tragedy and its prolonged aftermath, Mentor Patch wants to know how 9/11 affected you. Were you there or know someone who was in New York or D.C. that day? Did you go afterwards to help? Did you or someone you know join the military because of the attacks? Maybe the day affected you in a more subtle way. Perhaps, you started hanging the American flag in your window or started …
