Robert Nelson pleaded guilty to four counts of burglary
One more member of the burglary ring that Mentor Police helped bust last September has been sentenced to prison. Lake County Court of Common Pleas Judge Richard Collins Jr. sentenced Robert Nelson to eight years in prison Monday. Nelson, 30, of Madison, had previously pleaded guilty to four counts of burglary. Collins also ordered Nelson to pay about $3,000 in restitution to his victims. Nelson -- along with his codefendants Rose Santos and Rodney Williams -- were arrested by Mentor Police last year. Police had staked out Stockbridge Road because of previous break-ins in the neighborhood, police said. When another break-in happened, police stopped a Buick LeSabre with Nelson and Williams in it. Rose Santos -- a member of burglary ring that Mentor Police arrested last year -- admitted to committing 30 burglaries Tuesday in Lake County Court of Common Pleas. Santos, 49, of Painesville, broke into 30 homes between June and September 2011. She and her codefendants would steal jewelry from houses in Lake and Ashtabula County, including seven in Mentor. Then they would sell the jewelry and use the money to buy heroin, Lake County Assistant Prosecutor Rocco DiPierro said. Santos has since admitted to her role in the burglaries and provided information that led to the convictions of her codefendants, Bradley Rosier, Robert Nelson and Rodney Williams. Three burglary suspects who were arrested by Mentor Police Friday may be involved in a ring that broke into more than a dozen houses throughout Lake County, police said. Rose Santos, Robert Nelson and Rodney Williams were all arraigned Monday morning in Mentor Municipal Court. They all face charges of burglary and possession of drug abuse instruments. Williams, 32, of Madison Township, also faces a misdemeanor of driving with a suspended license. Santos, 47 of Painesville, and Nelson, 29 of Madison Township, are also accused of possessing criminal tools – specifically credit cards, pliers and wrenches that police think they used to break into a house on Stockbridge Road.
