The Ohio Department of Education released preliminary report card data for schools across the state on Wednesday. The final data is on hold until the state completes an investigation into some districts’ attendance numbers. The Ohio Department of Education yesterday released all of the preliminary data for the 2011-2012 state report cards. The final data is on hold until the state completes an investigation into some districts’ attendance numbers. Mentor Public Schools earned the highest possible state ranking of “Excellent with Distinction.” Use our searchable database above to see how any public district in the state performed. While the release of state report cards has been delayed, the Ohio Department of Education has released some information on school districts. The preliminary data shows Mentor Public Schools as the only district in Lake County to both meet Adequate Yearly Progress and earn above the Value-Added Measure. Adequate Yearly Progress measures the growth of students in subgroups, such as race or economic status. Value Added measures whether students have made a year’s progress. The preliminary information also shows Mentor students scored well on the standardized tests used as indicators. Specifically, Mentor Public Schools met 24 out of 24 of the indicators released. Report cards for Ohio schools are supposed to be released Aug. 29. But state school officials may delay the release until September while the state auditor investigates whether school districts have manipulated data for better results.
A data-tampering scandal may cause the Ohio Department of Education to delay the release of the school report cards until September, reports the Columbus Dispatch. The report cards are slated to be released Aug. 29. But State Board of Education President Debe Terhar has requested that the release of report cards be delayed until at least Sept. 10 when the state board meets again. The concern is that the school report card data may not be accurate. The Dispatch reports that the state auditor is currently investigating whether some districts, including Columbus, have manipulated data to obtain a better score. The allegations, which began in Columbus schools, are that school employees withdrew and then re-enrolled students so their test …

Check out the individual report cards for each school in the Mentor district
Not only did the Ohio Department of Education grade Mentor Schools, it also graded each individual school in the district. Twelve of the 13 schools in the district received the grade "excellent." Only Lake Elementary received a lower grade. ODE designated it as "effective," the same grade it has received the last two years. All but two Mentor schools met all of their state indicators. Garfield Elementary met seven of eight indicators and Lake met five of eight. Lake Elementary scored 96.7 out of 120 possible points on ODE's performance index. Do you mean: "Should we start allowing public schools to keep minimum GPAs and afford our administrators easier paths to expel students"; OR: "Should we make comparisons between schools that can do those things and schools that cannot"?   more ›
