Everyone loves a parade, especially when it's the beginning of Mentor's Fourth of July celebration.
There was no telling who you could meet at the city of Mentor's annual Fourth of July parade -- Uncle Sam or Spider Man, a local politician or a future Marine. The heat did little to slow the parade as it wound through the Headlands neighborhood. There was lots of candy and people cheering from start to finish.

City will celebrate the holiday with annual parade, fireworks show
The city of Mentor will celebrate the Fourth of July with a pair of local traditions -- this afternoon's parade through the Headlands neighborhood and the fireworks show tonight. The parade will begin at noon at the intersection of Forest and Garden roads before heading east on Garden, then north on Corduroy and ending at Lake Overlook and Corduroy Road. This year's parade will have the theme "celebrating 60 years of an American tradition." Then the fireworks show will begin at 9:50 p.m. on the property of Mentor High School. (Beforehand, the Mentor Fire Department will be giving demonstrations on how to do hands-only CPR in front of Fire Station Five.) Mentor trounced Parma 49-0 during Parma during its Homecoming game Friday at Jerome T. Osborne Stadium to remain undefeated (5-0.) However, homecoming weekend is about a lot more than football. Before the game, the nominees for homecoming queen led a parade down Mentor Avenue that included students from every school in the district. The fun continues Saturday night with the Homecoming dance.

The It's Better In Mentor parade attracted an eclectic group. Captain America, a dancing carton of Curly Fries and the Grinch joined parade mainstays, including the city's police and fire departments, the armed services, Boy Scouts and the Mentor High School marching band, flagline and majorettes.

Hundreds line the streets to watch floats, marching units and bands
More than 50 units, including four labor unions, participated in Mentor-on-the-Lake's Annual Labor Day Parade Saturday afternoon. Hundreds of spectators lined the parade route that stretched from Rice Elementary on Lake Shore Boulevard to Andrews Road and ended at Mentor Beach Park. Mentor-on-the-Lake Mayor John M. Rogers said several businesses and organizations supported the community parade including Amvets Post 109 and Ladies Auxiliary, Spudnuts Donut Shop, Mentor-on-the-Lake Giant Eagle Supermarkets, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Miller, McDonald's Restaurant, City of Mentor, the Mentor School Board, Mentor-on-the-Lake Senior Pinochle Club, Munson Road State Beverage and C. Pearson Trophy & Sales.
