Mentor Tops St. Ignatius In Triple Overtime Classic

The Cardinals win regional championship by going through the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year and the only team to beat them this season

"To win Region 1, you have to go through St. Ignatius," Mentor quarterback Mitch Trubisky said after the Cardinals' 57-56 win over the Wildcats Saturday night. That was true when Ignatius knocked the Cardinals out of the playoffs in the regional championship last year. However, now Mentor has more than revenge. They have the regional championship and they won it in spectacular fashion. It came down to one play in triple overtime. Mentor and Ignatius traded touchdowns for two overtimes. Then Wildcats Michael LaManna tossed a touchdown pass to running back Timothy McVey. The Cardinals responded in kind. A pass from Trubisky to Connor Krizancic set up a Trubisky touchdown run. Mentor Head Coach Steve Trivisonno knew his defense was tired and …

Mentor Cardinals Football Team Clinch Division Championship With Defense, Running

Cardinals top Twinsburg Tigers 41-0

The story for the entire season has been the Mentor Cardinals' offense, specifically North Carolina recruit Mitch Trubisky and his cadre of talented receivers. And for most of the season the Cardinals' defense said they were underrated. Well, the defense guaranteed Mentor (9-1) would be the NEO Conference Valley Division champions by shutting out a talented Twinsburg Tigers team (6-4) Friday night at Jerome T. Osborne Stadium. The Tigers, who do have playmakers including quarterback Jalen Washington and running back Tyrone McGuinea, could not generate any momentum against the Cardinals staunch defense. Mentor sacked the Tigers five times, costing Twinsburg a total of 52 yards, and intercepted them twice. "They played really hard on defense…

I believe in angels and Billy was there last night. I went with my Dad and my 2 older kids. The first reason was to Honor Billy, the second to see the MFCMB and 3rd I usually see at least one Mentor Game a season and had not made it there until last night. I read Billy's Career number of touchdowns and they said he has scored 41 TOUCHDOWNS and What was the score lastnight? 41 for every touchdown …   more ›

Mentor Cardinals Continue Bum Rush With Rout Of Medina

The Cardinals shellacked the Medina Bees, 63-21 in a game that was never close

Since suffering their only loss of the season to St. Ignatius, the Mentor Cardinals (7-1) have outscored their opponents 45-14, 55-0, 49-21 and 56-28. Soon people will run out of synonyms for "rout." The Medina Bees (2-6) were the Cardinals' latest victim. Mentor trounced them, 63 to 21, in a blowout that was not even as close as the score might imply. Mentor's prolific offense scored early and often, tacking on 28 points before the end of the first quarter. A 19-yard touchdown run by Mentor quarterback and North Carolina recruit Mitch Trubisky cracked the seal just 90 seconds into the game. Conner Krizancic stretched the Cardinals' lead with touchdown runs of one and 54 yards -- still in the first quarter. Then, running back Nick Delisa …

Mitch Trubisky Throws Six TDs, Leads Mentor Over Solon, 56-28

Mitch Trubisky threw six touchdown passes in bad weather to defeat the Solon Comets.

Mentor quarterback Mitch Trubisky threw six touchdown passes as the Cardinals defeated Solon 56-28. Mentor is now 6-1 and Solon falls to 4-3. Trubisky's final numbers were stellar: He completed more than 75 percent of his passes for more than 300 yards, with the six touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for more than 100 yards. Nick Delisa ran for one touchdown and caught two more. Brandon Fritts scored three touchdowns each. Conner Krizancic also snagged a touchdown catch. The Comets had two special teams mistakes early and gave up 21 first quarter points to Mentor. The Cardinals had 42 points at halftime. Solon put some offense together in the second half but the late scoring wasn't enough to overcome Mentor's cushion. …

Mentor Cardinals Football Team Dominates Brunswick

Cardinals trounce a tough Blue Devils squad 49-21

It's fair to say the Mentor Cardinals (5-1) have found their rhythm. In their last three games they have accrued 149 points. Friday night, they dominated a tough Brunswick squad 49-21. "As a team, it was our best performance of the season," Mentor Head Coach Steve Trivisonno said. Cardinals quarterback Mitch Trubisky threw for five touchdowns and ran for another. That would be a career night for many quarterbacks. For Trubisky and the Cardinals offense, this is becoming typical. "Just another day at work," Trivisonno joked, when asked about Trubisky's performance. Then he added, "He's a special player. What more can be said?" However, as with every game this season except last week's shutout against Parma, the Cardinals allowed the other …
