ESPN: Mitch Trubisky Could Be Next Johnny Manziel

ESPN reporter compares Mentor quarterback favorably to Heisman winner

ESPN reporters Tom Luginbill and Michael Kim were discussing Texas A & M quarterback Johnny Manziel's Heisman win, when Kim asked Luginbill who could be the next Manziel. And who was the first name Luginbill said? Mentor Cardinals quarterback Mitch Trubisky. (Watch video of the clip here. Luginbill first mentions Trubisky shortly after the 1:00 mark.) "He's a bigger version of Johnny Manziel -- has that sandlot feel," Luginbill said. Trubisky was recently named Mr. Football by the Associated Press of Ohio -- an honor reserved for the best high school football player in the state. Mentor's Mitch Trubisky Named Mr. Football

Trubisky shattered records at Mentor High, accumulating more than 1,000 yards rushing and 4,000 yards passing, while leading the Cardinals to the state semifinals

What is Mentor High quarterback Mitch Trubisky's resume to be Mr. Football? What made the Associated Press of Ohio pick Trubisky as the best football player in the state? We could talk about the numbers. Trubisky shattered several Mentor records this year with 1,129 yards rushing, 4,065 yards passing and a total of 60 touchdowns. (Bear in mind that some of these records had been set by 2007 Mr. Football, Bart Tanski.) Trubisky also averaged 40 yards per punt, for those who might doubt his leg strength. For the three years Trubisky was quarterback -- he platooned his sophomore year -- he threw for 9,126 yards and 92 touchdowns. But Trubisky didn't just rack up some glamorous statistics.
