The Read-A-Thon raises funds for the Mentor Schools Foundation that, in turn, supports the district with grants
The teacher of Hopkins Elementary have made a video to motivate their students to participate in the Mentor Schools Foundation’s Read-a-Thon. Read-a-Thon is a contest that raises money for the Mentor Schools Foundation. The foundation, in turn, supports the school district via grants that pay for classroom equipment, programs and field trips that the district could not afford otherwise. For example, the foundation recently helped Hopkins by supporting the community garden project and purchasing pedometers for physical education class. The contest is underway across the Mentor Public schools district and runs through March 22. The song featured in the video is What I Am by will.i.am. "It was chosen for the students because teachers believe …

Park of the breakfast's proceeds will go toward creating a technology lending library for the school district
The Mentor Schools Foundation realizes that you have plenty of turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie to eat this Thanksgiving. However, they ask -- if you knew it was for a good cause -- could you, perhaps, make room for a little breakfast? The foundation will host its 12th annual Thanksgiving pancake breakfast this Thursday morning at Yours Truly restaurant. In return for a voluntary donation, people can enjoy pancakes, sausage, coffee and orange juice. The proceeds from the last three breakfasts have helped sponsor the schools Science Olympiad teams, update the high school's planetarium and buy equipment for the Cardinals Autism Resource and Education School (CARES.) This year, a portion of the funds raised from the pancake breakfast will be …

The foundation used the proceeds from its annual pancake breakfast to give $3,775 worth of equipment to the district's autism resource and education center
The Mentor Schools Foundation has used part of the money it raised last year to buy equipment for the Cardinals Autism Resource and Education School (CARES.) The charity paid $3,775 to buy a recumbent exercise bike, an elliptical trainer, and an exercise ball for CARES, which is the district's new educational, training and resource facility for children and young adults with autism. The money for the equipment came from the charity's annual Thanksgiving pancake breakfast at Yours Truly. Any additional money raised during the event will also go to support Mentor Schools and its students, according to the foundation. The Mentor Schools Foundation started in 1985 and, since its inception, has given more than $120,000 in grants to the school…
