They competed in a costume contest with categories like Face Only a Mother Could Love, Dog & Owner Lookalike and Best Costume. The winners (both pets and owners) received prizes. Dress Your Pets For Howl-O-Ween

Let your pet have some fun this Halloween, also. Dress your pooch in its funniest, silliest or scariest costume for the annual Howl-O-Ween from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at Mentor Dog Park. Pets and owners can compete in a costume contest with categories like Face Only a Mother Could Love, Dog & Owner Lookalike and Best Costume. The winners (both pets and owners) will receive prizes. Of course, the dogs will also be able to play at the dog park's fenced agility courses or go for a walk. Pet-friendly vendors will also have treats for sale for both pooches and their patrons. A few rules apply: dogs must be up to date on their vaccinations, licensed and not be in heat to come play. Howl-O-Ween is a free event. Call Mentor Recreation at 440-974-…

Vote For 'Bark For Your Park' & Win Mentor A New Dog Park

The winning city will get $100,000 for a dog park

Jill Korsok, an employee for Mentor's Parks and Recreation Department, loves the Mentor Dog Park and the people who use it. But that doesn't mean she would turn down $100,000 to help build a new, bigger one. Mentor is participating in the Bark for your Park contest in which people vote for their city and the city that receives the most votes gets $100,000 from PetSafe to build a dog park. "If we win, we might use it to build a new dog park," Korsok said. She explained the current dog park uses land that was donated by CEI; and, while they appreciate both the donation and the park, that limits their options when it comes to expansion. Because the current dog park cannot be expanded, the money would have to be applied to a new location. However, because this all tentative (as there's no guarantee Mentor will receive the money,) no finalized plans are in place. That's all.   more ›

A bit of nasty weather forced organizers to reschedule Howl-O-Ween for this week but dogs will still have their chance to dress in silly and spooky costumes. The costumed pups can gather for the fifth annual Howl-O-Ween from 5:30 to 7 p.m. this Thursday at Mentor Dog Park. Pets and owners can compete in a costume contest with categories like Face Only a Mother Could Love, Dog & Owner Lookalike and Best Costume.
