SHORE PTSA MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY FOOD DRIVE Where/When: Shore Middle School, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday Why Go: The Shore Middle School PTSA is conducting a Food Drive to benefit St. Bede's Food Pantry this Saturday. All proceeds will directly benefit Lake County families. Members of the Shore PTSA, including staff, parents and students, will be on hand from 9:00 am to 2:00 p.m. (rain or shine) to collect food and donations from anyone wishing to join in and support this effort. Most needed now are healthy foods to build balanced meals for families. All types of canned or boxed dry food and paper products will be graciously accepted along with monetary donations of any size. IT'S BETTER IN MENTOR FESTIVAL Where/When: Civic Center Park & Mentor High School; Friday, Saturday & Sunday Why Go: The It's Better In Mentor Festival returns to the city for its 35th year this weekend. The festivities include rides, games, food, clowns, a parade, music, ballroom dancing, a pair of pancake breakfasts, a karate demonstration, a 5-mile run and and so much more. But you want to know about the parade, right? The parade steps off at 10 a.m. Saturday from Shore Middle School on Hopkins Road and continues south to Civic Center Boulevard. Gourmands enjoyed food, drink and good company from more than a dozen Mentor eateries
The Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce held its first ever restaurant showcase Wednesday at Mentor Beach Park. More than dozen local restaurants and caterers offered samples of some of their signature dishes, including: Additionally, World of Wines & Liquor provided drinks for the event. Toward the conclusion of the event, Chamber President Kevin Malecek told the crowd of about 90, "With the restaurants we have here, we have one of the finest dining locations in the country."

The Mentor restaurant is having a special evening to honor the man behind Rocky and Rambo
Mama Roberto's Italian restaurant is hoping its second annual Sylvester Stallone tribute is like the ending of Rocky 2 -- a knockout. From 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, patrons can dress as their favorite Stallone character -- best costume wins a gift -- while enjoying trivia games and winning prizes. Meanwhile, the staff will set the mood by playing music from Stallone's movies. And, of course, there will be plenty of food. Those with questions can call Mama Roberto's at 440-205-8890.

Thank you to everyone who voted
We asked for you to vote for your favorite family restaurant in Mentor and the vote was close thanks to a late surge. For awhile, Mama Roberto's had almost seven times as many votes as its next competitor. Then Lakeshore Eatery made a last-minute charge, tacking on more than 100 votes. While it wasn't enough enough to overtake Mama Roberto's, it's clear both restaurants have a large and loyal clientele. Now that doesn't mean that any of the other nominees are in any way wanting. Students visit Mama Roberto's and Ladies & Gentlemen Salon to learn more about local businesses
The students of Leadership Lake County's High School Program visited Mama Roberto's, Ladies & Gentlemen Salon and other local businesses Tuesday to learn about what it takes to be a successful entrepeneur. The High School program gives juniors from 14 schools across the region, including Mentor High and Lake Catholic, a behind-the-scenes look at Lake County while helping them develop the skills they need to lead. Students gather on the first Wednesday of every month to explore a different aspect of Lake County. This month, they learned about business and entrepeneurship. In addition to learning about Lake County, these students participate in a service project that provides school supplies for students who need them. Last year, students …

Mama Roberto's Pizza and Pasta and WELW will celebrate the history of Cleveland rock from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Mentor Italian restuarant. Denny Carleton -- a Cleveland-based singer and guitarist who has played with many local bands, most famously "The Choir" -- will perform for patrons. People can get A Taste of Mentor from 4 to 8 p.m. during today's Old Village Market Days at James A. Garfield National Historic Site. Of course, if they want more than a taste, they can get that, also. A dozen local restaurants will offer free samples of some of their signature dishes. The restaurants include: Also, as with each Old Village Market Days, the farmer’s market will feature locally grown produce, arts and crafts, and many other products for sale by dozens of vendors. Face painters, balloon artists and musicians will also entertain the crowd. Moreover, all Market Days are free to attend. Visitors can also tour the park's grounds, including President James Garfield's home, for free.
