Tim Pira was selected for his innovative science programs, which include vivariums, gardens and the cataloging of local flora and fauna
Lubrizol Corp. visited Lake Catholic High School Monday so they could give educator Tim Pira their annual Lake County Science Teacher Award. Chris Ciolli, a project manager at Lubrizol, said they picked Pira for his innovative initiatives like his: "It's teachers like Tim who are going to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers who will keep America competitive," Ciolli said. Lubrizol's Wickliffe facility raised more than $162,000 for the United Way of Lake County's annual campaign, as well as another $88,000 for other chapters of the United Way. "Our culture is one of giving back to the community and it always has been," said Dan Sheets, the president of Lubrizol Additives. "There’s not a better vehicle than United Way of Lake County to give back because they are very effective and efficient in distributing funds to programs in need." More than half of Lubrizol's employees participated in the 4-week campaign. Retirees alone donated almost $20,000. "At Lubrizol, we feel pretty fortunate to be working for a company that is doing well and we feel privileged to give back to people in our own community who are less…
