Lake Humane Society Hosting Roller Skating Party, Paws For Pizza Event & More This April

The fundraisers will help the shelter provide care for dozens of homeless, abandoned and injured animals

The Lake Humane Society has a busy month ahead of it. It will be throwing roller skating parties, Zumbathons and more -- all in hopes of raising money for the homeless and injured animals at its Mentor shelter. Here are some of the events planned for this month: All the Longo's restauraunts, including Longo's Pizza and Joey's Italian Grille, are holding a fundraising event from April 22 through 24. Here's how it works: Stop by any of the four Longo's/Joey's locations and purchase any large 1-topping pizza for $10. All of the proceeds will be donated back to Lake Humane Society. Longo Family to Open New Mentor Restaurant

The Italian restaurant is expected to open in November

By year's end, the Longo family will open another eatery in the city. Joe Longo made the announcement Tuesday at the Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce's monthly luncheon. The new restaurant will be located at 9354 Mentor Ave., in a building that the family ownership recently purchased.  The family already has two Longo's restaurants in Mentor; Whiskey a Go Go bar in Mentor; two Joey's Italian Grill locations in Madison and Chardon; and an areawide catering firm named Cater to You.  "We love being in Mentor," Longo told the crowd. "We've lived here our whole lives. We just love this area." Longo did not provide many details about the new establishment, but said that it would be a "full-fledged Italian restaurant." Get A Taste of Mentor Today

A dozen local restaurants will show off their wares during this week's Old Village Market Days

People can get A Taste of Mentor from 4 to 8 p.m. during today's Old Village Market Days at James A. Garfield National Historic Site. Of course, if they want more than a taste, they can get that, also. A dozen local restaurants will offer free samples of some of their signature dishes. The restaurants include: Also, as with each Old Village Market Days, the farmer’s market will feature locally grown produce, arts and crafts, and many other products for sale by dozens of vendors. Face painters, balloon artists and musicians will also entertain the crowd. Moreover, all Market Days are free to attend. Visitors can also tour the park's grounds, including President James Garfield's home, for free.
