Octogenarian Sentenced To Six Months In Jail For Latest Theft Offense

An 87-year-old woman was sentenced to six months in jail after she racked up her fourth theft conviction in five years and her fifth overall. June Kurtz, of Chardon, pleaded guilty to a count of petty theft in May. Mentor Municipal Court Judge John Trebets sentenced her Wednesday morning to six months in Lake County Jail. He also fined her $250 and said she could only go shopping if she was with another adult. When Kurtz is released from jail, she will be on probation for six months. Trebets also also told her to continue her program at Ravenwood Mental Health Center in Geauga County. Kurtz was arrested most recently April 5 while at Great Lakes Mall. She was first spotted by security in the Dillard's Department Store, police said. …
