Methamphetamine & Murder: A Week In News

This was a week with a lot of sad news in Mentor

1. There were a lot of high-profile sentencings this week in Lake County. Gary Stroud -- the former police officer and special deputy who murdered his wife with a hammer -- was sentenced to 16 years to life in prison this Wednesday. "I can't judge you -- not the sort of judgment you deserve," Judge Joseph Gibson said to Stroud. "That's going to come from something far beyond me, someone who doesn't have to run for public office." See what else was said in the court room and watch Stroud's words for the court here. 2. The next day, the man who was accused of trying to make methamphetamine in the Mentor Walmart was sentenced to two years in prison. James Richardson, 37, of Perry, pleaded guilty to the illegal assembly of chemicals for the …

Man Who Tried To Make Meth In Walmart Sentenced To 2 Years In Prison

James Richardson pleaded guilty to illegal assembly of ingredients for the manufacture of meth

The man who is accused of making methamphetamine in the Mentor Walmart was sentenced to two years in prison. James Richardson, 37, of Perry, pleaded guilty to the illegal assembly of chemicals for the manufacture of meth Thursday in Lake County Court of Common Pleas. Then Judge Eugene Lucci immediately sentenced him to prison for two years. Richardson did not have much to say during the hearing. When given the chance to speak, he apologized and said he did what he did "because of the drugs." Richardson was arrested on June 17. He was arrested for stealing the ingredients to make methamphetamine from a Walmart and trying to make it in the store. He put drain cleaner, camp fuel and Lime Out stain remover in his shopping cart, all of which …

Meth In Walmart, Ecstasy-Laced Gummy Bears & Spartan Death Races: A Week In Review

This was a week of weird news in Mentor

1. You think I'm going to open with the meth-in-Walmart guy, right? I mean, even Jay Leno was talking about him. But, no, I deliberately want to open with some good news. A Mentor firefighter completed the Spartan Death Race -- a torturous 3-day gauntlet designed to break competitors physically and psychologically. Only eight percent of those who start the race finish and that now includes Antonio "T.J." DiDonato. Read more about his story here. 2. So a guy was arrested for trying to make methampethamine in Walmart. Yes, in the store. If you haven't already read the story of James Richardson, you should. 3. Usually that would be, bar none, the weirdest drug story we get in a week. But Richardson gets some stiff competition from a trio of …

Man Accused Of Making Meth In Walmart

James Richardson is suspected of stealing the ingredients to make methamphetamine and then using them in the store

MENTOR, OH -- A man is accused of not just stealing the ingredients to make methamphetamine from a Walmart in Mentor, but also trying to make the meth in the store. A security guard spotted James Richardson, 37, of Perry, walking around the store about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. He put drain cleaner, camp fuel and Lime Out stain remover in his shopping cart, all of which are used in the production of meth, Mentor Police Lt. Ken Zbiegien said. Then Richardson grabbed a salt shaker and poured some of each of the products he had taken into it. Then he began shaking it, Zbiegien said. Authorities call this the shake-and-bake or one-pot method, which involves combining the ingredients in a single sealed container and shaking it to increase the pressure…

Whatever happened to free will and morality? Parents being parents and teaching their kids how to be contributing members of society? I, not being a meth user, would have wondered what ingredients he would have needed from Walmart to make the stuff. It is not a recipe. The items were provided to help the reader understand the story. Just because they were listed does not make me want to go to …   more ›
