A woman who crashed her car into Haven Home assisted living facility pleaded no contest to charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and fleeing and eluding Thursday in Mentor Municipal Court. April Lineberry, 20, of Concord Township, was convicted of both charges and Judge John Trebets sentenced her to 323 days in jail. On Oct. 2, Lineberry drove a pickup truck into the assisted living home. However, according to police, that was not the first or last crash she was involved in Sunday night. First, she was involved in a 2-vehicle crash in the 8000 block of Mentor Avenue. The woman accused of driving into the Haven Home assisted living facility is also suspected of driving while under the influence. April Lineberry, 20, of Concord Township, was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence, leaving after a crash, fleeing and eluding police, drug abuse, failing to control her car and not wearing a seat belt. She pleaded not guilty to all of these charges Monday morning in Mentor Municipal Court. Lineberry was arrested soon after crashing into the assisted living home. Mentor firefighters received a call that smoke was rising from the back of Haven Home, an assisted living facility on Rockingham Road, at about 9 p.m. At first, witnesses thought it was fire. It turned out to be be smoke from the tires of a car that had driven into the building and then drove away, Lt. Eric Gartner said. The people inside of the one-story house -- about a dozens residents and the employees -- said they heard an explosion before the saw the smoke, Gartner said. The explosion was the sound of a car driving through a fence, hitting a dumpster and pushing the dumpster into one of the building's units. Hit and run and driving under the influence is the reason for her incarceration. Hopefully, she learns, for everybody's sake. She looks young enough to make a good decision now to save herself tons of grief later.   more ›
