I haven’t had a garage sale in about five years. Since my two older girls were at camp last week, I seized the opportunity to purge my entire house of clutter. You wouldn’t believe the pile of stuff that I ended up with. Usually I sell at the Kids’ Stuff Sale at Garfield Park, so I had lots of kids' clothes and toys and books saved up. When I brought all that up from the basement and added it to the “purge pile,” I ended up with a virtual mountain of stuff. There was so much of it that I decided to have a garage sale. When the kids got home, the first thing Sadie (the packrat) said was, “Why do you always clean out when we aren’t home?” Hmm. I looked at her and said, “Why do you think? 1. KICK IT FOR CANCER Where/When: The tournament begins 11 a.m. Friday at Lake Catholic High School. Why Go: This event is perfect for anyone who likes kickball or hates cancer (and I'd like to think that most of humanity does both.) Lake Catholic is hosting a kickball tournament that raises money for cancer research and treatment, as well as for the families of a pair of 8-year-old girls who are fighting cancer. You don't have to play kickball if you go. You can listen to the DJ, play cornhole and watch the games. No matter what, it's a good event for a great cause. Pricing: Free to attend but you can always donate. 2. WOOF, WAG & WINE Where/When: noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, Grand River Cellars in Madison Township Why…

Parents looking to buy something for their children or, on contrarily, to get rid of things their kids never use anymore can visit the Just Kids Stuff Garage Sale this Thursday morning at Eleanor B. Garfield Park. Parents will sell toys, clothes, books, high chairs and more from 9 a.m. to noon in the park's pavilion. More than 35 parents have already registered to sell their kids' gently used items. However, people can still rent some space to sell if they're willing to bring their own table. Call the city's Parks and Recreation Department at 440-974-5720 to register. It costs residents $20 and nonresidents $25. You can just pay the morning of the garage sale. It costs nothing to peruse the tables and see if other parents have things you …
