Learn How To Deep Fry A Turkey At Mentor Public Library

The professionals from Gander Mountain show the safe way to do it during a demonstration Thursday at Mentor Public Library

Thanksgiving is visible on the horizon and that means turkey. And, while most people will enjoy the classic oven-roasted bird, a few more adventurous types will try deep-frying their poultry. Now, a deep-fried turkey is delicious but the cooking process can also be very dangerous. (Ask a firefighter about Thanksgiving morning.) Fortunately, the professionals of Gander Mountain will be giving a free demonstration of the safe way to deep fry a turkey 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Mentor Public Library's main branch. The festivities include rides, games, food, clowns, a parade, music, ballroom dancing, a pair of pancake breakfasts, a karate demonstration, a 5-mile run and and so much more. Gander Mountain Teaches Urban Deer Hunting At Library

Experts even set up a tree stand at Mentor Public Library to show how it's properly done

Urban deer hunting has been a hot topic in the city this summer with Mentor City Council considering the legalizing of bow hunting on private property. Consequently, a joint seminar from Gander Mountain and Mentor Public Library is aptly timed. Experts from Gander Mountain, as well as the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, offered tips on deer hunting and tree stand setups. Gander Mountain Store Manager Kevin Matty and Zone Supervisor Mitch Leppelmeier reviewed baiting techniques, and the safe operation of the compound bow and crossbow used to harvest deer in urban areas. Gander Mountain To Talk Urban Deer Hunting At Mentor Library

Get tips from the pros during this free event

Gander Mountain will conclude its seminar series with a talk on urban deer hunting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the main branch of the Mentor Public Library. The pros will offer tips on deer hunting and tree stand setups. A representative of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will also be at the meeting to answer questions regarding urban deer hunting regulations and safety requirements. (It's illegal to hunt deer in Mentor but that may change in the near future.) The seminar is free. However, those interested are asked to register for the event. Gander Mountain Teaches Walleye Fishing At Mentor Public Library

Seminar hooked fishing pros and rookies alike

Gander Mountain and Mentor Public Library kicked off their seminar series on hunting and fishing with a talk about the best practices for catching walleye last week at the library's main branch. Matt Buck and Mitch Leppelmeier, of Gander Mountain, shared their years of experience to the 17 fishing enthusiasts who attended the seminar. They presented several approaches to walleye fishing, trolling techniques and lure selection to the participants. They also talked about the best Lake Erie walleye fishing sites and the importance of timing and water temperature to snag the elusive fish. Gander Mountain will kick off its seminar series with a talk about the best practices for catching walleye

"We live in the walleye capital of the world," said Matt Buck, the head of hunting and fishing at Gander Mountain. "The fishing in Lake Erie is absolutely wonderful for everything, but especially walleye," Buck explained. "They are a lot of fun to catch and they're great to eat." Library, Gander Mountain Team For Seminar Series On Outdoors

Hunters, fishers and outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy this new series from Mentor Public Library and Gander Mountain

Mentor Public Library and Gander Mountain have teamed to put on a new summer seminar series for hunting and fishing enthusiasts. The seminar series will begin Thursday, June 21 at 6:30 p.m. All seminars will be in the main branch's James R. Garfield Room. The first seminar in the series will present tips on Lake Erie fishing and lure selection, as well as approaches to walleye fishing and trolling techniques. All of the seminars are free to attend but registration is required for each.
