Lake Health Puts Temporary Restrictions On Visitors In Effort To Keep Flu From Spreading

Children asked not to visit, as are adults who have been diagnosed with the flu or exhibit flu-like behaviors

In an effort to stem the spread of the seasonal flu, Lake Health has begun limiting visitors to West Medical Center in Willoughby and TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township. Although Lake Health will make exceptions in some circumstances, the following temporary restrictions have been put in place immediately: In related news, Lake County General Health District still has flu shots available. The vaccinations costs $10 for children from 6 months to 18 years old and $20.00 for adults. Please call (440) 350-2554 to schedule your flu shot. The flu is extremely contagious. Lake County General Health District has been receiving reports of significant increases in flu activity across Ohio, including Lake County. This indicates that an early flu season is underway. Lake County General Health District urges all residents to get a flu shot if you have not already. Vaccination is the single most important step you can take to protect yourself and others against the flu. Flu shots cost $10 for children from 6 months to 18 years old. The cost of the vaccine is $20.00 for adults. With more flu cases popping up, it's time to get serious about your flu shot if you haven't gotten it yet. Lake County General Health District is hosting a flu shot clinic from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. today in honor of National Influenza Vaccination Week.    "National Influenza Vaccination Week provides an important opportunity for Public Health to tell people how important it is for people to get an annual flu shot," said Kathy Durchik, Director of Nursing at Lake County General Health District. It's the first year for flu shots in the Ward household. I always get mine, and have already had one this season. (Not to brag...) My husband, on the other hand, is one of those people who doesn't believe in flu shots. This year it's different, though, expecting a little one with no immunities. Or is it? Apparently this is all old news to the masses — 1970s for cats, 2000 for dogs — but I just learned this week that if the flu finds you, it can find your pet, too. Giant Eagle Pulls Needle-Less Flu Shot After FDA Warning

Giant Eagle has pulled flu shots administered with a jet injector.

Needle-less flu shots are no longer being offered at Giant Eagle pharmacies, following a warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA issued a statement Friday advising health care professionals not to administer jet injected, or needle-less, flu shots. "The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued updated guidance to health care professionals on the administration of influenza vaccinations," Giant Eagle said in a statement released Monday. "As a result of this guidance, Giant Eagle Pharmacy has discontinued use of needle free technology for flu shots, but will continue to administer the flu vaccine via traditional needle injection." Flu Shots Still Available from Health District

Flu season has begun, but it's not too late to get a flu shot from the Lake County General Health District

Flu season has struck Lake County. Outbreaks of the flu or flu-like illnesses are confirmed in at least half of the state's regions. Those confirmed cases include people who were hospitalized last week in Lake County, said Kathy Durchik, the nursing director for the Lake County General Health District. Durchik said that it is not too late to get a flu shot. Children can get a flu shot for $5 from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Mentor Civic Ice Arena, during its monthly kids' immunization clinic. Adult flu shots are available for $22.00 every Friday at the health district's headquarters, 33 Mill Street in Painesville. If someone wants a flu shot, either for themselves or their children, they should call 440-350-2554 to make an appointment…
