Each week the Mentor Patch Moms Council answers a question on parenthood posed to them by readers or another member of council. This week's question: It's beginning to look a lot like flu season. Lake Health is limiting the number of visitors at its medical centers. Lake County Health District is reminding us they still have flu shots available. What -- if anything -- can be done to prevent the flu from running rampant through homes with children? Or is it just a matter of time once one of your kids (or grandkids) have it? Flu season has begun, but it's not too late to get a flu shot from the Lake County General Health District
Lake County General Health District has been receiving reports of significant increases in flu activity across Ohio, including Lake County. This indicates that an early flu season is underway. Lake County General Health District urges all residents to get a flu shot if you have not already. Vaccination is the single most important step you can take to protect yourself and others against the flu. Flu shots cost $10 for children from 6 months to 18 years old. The cost of the vaccine is $20.00 for adults. Researchers Studying Human-to-Dog and Cat Transmission
It's the first year for flu shots in the Ward household. I always get mine, and have already had one this season. (Not to brag...) My husband, on the other hand, is one of those people who doesn't believe in flu shots. This year it's different, though, expecting a little one with no immunities. Or is it? Apparently this is all old news to the masses — 1970s for cats, 2000 for dogs — but I just learned this week that if the flu finds you, it can find your pet, too. In fact, pets may even contract the flu from us humans more often than initially thought, and perhaps even moreso among cats, according to recent reports. Flu season has begun, but it's not too late to get a flu shot from the Lake County General Health District
Flu season has struck Lake County. Outbreaks of the flu or flu-like illnesses are confirmed in at least half of the state's regions. Those confirmed cases include people who were hospitalized last week in Lake County, said Kathy Durchik, the nursing director for the Lake County General Health District. Durchik said that it is not too late to get a flu shot. Children can get a flu shot for $5 from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Mentor Civic Ice Arena, during its monthly kids' immunization clinic. Adult flu shots are available for $22.00 every Friday at the health district's headquarters, 33 Mill Street in Painesville. If someone wants a flu shot, either for themselves or their children, they should call 440-350-2554 to make an appointment…
