Comfort Inn will be made over and rebranded as a Holiday Inn
The Mentor Planning Commission approved Comfort Inn's proposed makeover into a Holiday Inn. The hotel was built as a Ramada Inn in 1972 and has since changed brands several times. It was previously a Mentor Inn, Country Inn and Travelodge. It became a Comfort Inn in 2001. The $100,000 reimaging will include changes to the hotel's roof lines and covered entrance canopy. Also, its 53-foot tower above the main entrance will be replaced with parapet walls. The existing canopy will be removed and replaced with a new canopy that has an arched standing seam metal roof. Mentor Planning Commission can approve a re-imaging that would allow the Comfort Inn on Reynolds Road to become a Holiday Inn. The proposed makeover is on the agenda for the Commission's meeting at 7 p.m. today at city hall. “It’s a more business-friendly brand, so it will increase our occupancy during the week, especially with all the businesses coming into Mentor,” Comfort Inn Manager Jessica Gilbride said to The News-Herald. “We do a lot of weddings as it is now. It will enhance what is going on on the weekends, too, which means more money for the county and the city.” The Planning Commission also has a pair of requests for conditional use permits on its agenda. Ridge Valley Day Care and M R Parker Inc. have asked to have a day care on…

Pete Randel says he doesn't own an Edsel for nostalgic reasons. "I think it's a pretty car, so it's not just nostalgia," the Mentor-on-the-Lake man said. "I think if you're just into it for nostalgia, you lose interest." If Randel wanted to indulge his nostalgia, he could have purchased a '59 Edsel – the same type of car his father used to teach him how to drive. Instead, he bought a '58 hardtop convertible. "When I decided I was going to buy an Edsel, I checked around and fell in love with the body style of the '58," he said. Randel will be joined by dozens of like-minded Edsel enthusiasts from across the country this week for International Edsel Club's 43rd annual rally. Edsel owners from as far away as California, Nebraska, New …
