Pet Pause

Dog Nights Return to Classic Park

Four Dates Available; Pup Packages Also Available at Progressive Field in August

Our boys of summer need us. I'm no sports writer, but with a record of 26-29 thus far this season – and that's doing better away than home (15-14 vs. 11-15), not including Sunday's home game – the Lake County Captains are clearly missing that essential hometown spark. What can we do? Slather on the sunscreen, hit the ballpark, raise your voice (or just fill a seat) and take in a Captains game this summer. I hear this year's new Moby Dick fish sandwich is a great way to feed the whole family. There are even days you can bring the dog. St. Mary Students Part of Record-Setting Group

Students and teachers from 10 Northeast Ohio schools set the record for the most people carrying bottles on their heads as part of their clean-water drive.

A group in Toronto previously held the record with nearly 200 fewer participants. The students and teachers pulled off the feat at a celebration for the schools that participated in the Schools for Water program this school year. Mentor native Katie Spotz started the collaborative initiative to raise money so schools in Kenya could have clean water. In its first year, the effort has raised more than $90,000 …

Local Salons Square Off in Charity Softball Game Sunday

Ladies & Gentlemen Salon is raising money for the United Way of Lake County by swinging for the fences

The employees of Ladies & Gentlemen Salon & Day Spa are better known for their skills in the beauty shop than on the baseball diamond; but they will be swinging their bats for a good cause this Sunday. The Mentor salon will compete against John Roberts Salon in a charity softball game 4:30 p.m. at Classic Park in Eastlake. All the money from tickets sold will go to worthwhile causes. The ladies and gentleman of Ladies & Gentlemen will donate their proceeds to the United Way of Lake County. Meanwhile, their Mayfield Heights counterparts are boosting Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. This game is a rematch and John Roberts won last time, so the honor of Lake County's beauticians and masseuses will be on the line. "We hope to have a…
