Watch: Mentor Firefighters Meet With Family Whose Lives They Saved

Mentor firefighters rescued the Lukasiewicz and Blare family when a man drove his car into their home on Comanche Trail

The last time the Mentor firefighters saw 3-year-old Christopher Lukasiewicz, they were pulling a car off of him. A man had driven his car into his family's home on Comanche Trail in the middle of the night on December 9. His father Christopher Lukasiewicz, mother Tonya Blare, him and 18-month-old daughter Cassy Lukasiewicz all needed to be taken to the hospital. And, while everyone survived, both the older and younger Chrisophers had very serious injuries. Fortunately, when the firefighters saw the Lukasiewicz and Blare family Thursday at Mentor Fire Station 5, it was under much better circumstances. And young Christopher, instead of being in the back of an ambulance, got to sit in the driver's seat of the fire truck. The firefighters -- …

Suspected Driver In Comanche Crash Appears In Court; Victims Still Recovering

The 3-year-old boy who was hospitalized after a car crashed into his home is still at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital

Daniel Vanderhoof Jr. -- the man accused of driving into a house on Comanche Trail and sending four people, including two young children, to the hospital -- appeared Monday in Mentor Municipal Court. Vanderhoof, 28, of Willoughby, faces four charges of aggravated vehicular assault. He is also accused of drunken driving, driving without a license, reckless operation and fleeing the scene of a crash. Because he faces felonies, Vanderhoof's case cannot be heard in Mentor Municipal Court. Instead, it was bound over to Lake County Court of Common Pleas. While in court, Vanderhoof apologized to the family whose house he hit with a car. "I am so sorry," he said, according to The News-Herald. Meanwhile, the family that was hospitalized continues …

Lukasiewicz Baby Released From Hospital; 3-Year-Old Brother Still At Rainbow

The Lukasiewicz-Blare family still has a long road to recovery after a driver crashed his car into their home

For the Lukasiewicz and Blare family, any good news is balanced against the totality of the hardship they have suffered and continue to suffer. In the early morning hours of Sunday, a man crashed into their home on Comanche Trail, sending father Christopher Lukasiewicz, mother Tonya Blare, 3-year-old son Christopher Lukasiewicz Jr. and 18-month-old daughter Cassy Lukasiewicz to the hospital. Blare had least severe injuries and was released from the hospital the same day. The good news is that Cassy was able to come home from Rainbow Babies & Children's hospital Tuesday, said Natilee Blare, Tonya's mother. "She just got home so she's groggy but, otherwise, she's OK," Natilee Blare said. Unfortunately, her brother and father are still …

Family Gives Update On Mentor Family Hospitalized By Car That Crashed Into Home

Family says a trust will be set up to help the Lukasiewicz-Blare family get back on their feet.

Natilee Blare offered updates on her family members' recovery Monday morning. Early Sunday morning, a driver crashed into the home that Blare owns on Comanche Trail in Mentor. The car ran over her son-in-law Christopher Lukasiewicz Sr. and her 3-year-old grandson Christopher Lukasiewicz Jr. The older Christopher has several broken bones throughout his body but he is in stable condition at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. The family doesn't expect him to get out of the hospital for three weeks, Blare said. The younger Christopher was in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. However, he is improving, Blare said. He is showing signs of consciousness and doctors plan to remove his …
