Mentor Public Library Holding Sweet Contest to Commemorate Banned Book Week

The library is having a food contest Oct. 2 where each sweet must be based on a banned book

Censorship never tasted so sweet. Mentor Public Library is commemorating Banned Books Week with a food contest on Oct. 2 at its main branch. Bakers will makes cakes or other sweets that reflect a chosen banned book in shape, content, title and appearance. A play on words is acceptable. Competitors will be split into three categories: professional; amateur; and children, which includes anyone from 8 to 17 years old. The first-, second- and third-place finishers in each category will win prizes. The three judges for the contest are Jeff Shibley, the owner of Yours Truly; Bonnie Matthews, proprietor of Food for Thought caterers; and Jessica Nestor, the owner of Sweets on Wheels and an instructor for Wilton cake decorating at Jo-Ann Fabrics…
