Students taught students about bird migration in Lake Catholic's vivarium
The students of All Saints of St. John Vianney had never seen anything like Lake Catholic High School's vivarium. The room is one part biology laboratory, one part botanical garden and one part museum with a little bit of shop class sprinkled in. The vivarium houses displays on invasive species -- including buckthorn trees picked from the school's grounds -- tropical plants, a pond, a small-scale model that depicts the dangers of erosion, a composter and the beginnings of a water-filtration lab. The fifth graders visited it Friday to learn more about birds' habits, including feeding and migration, which they learned from Lake Catholic seniors. Sara Hudson, 8, passed away this summer after succumbing to T-cell lymphoma
Sara Hudson was a smiler, her father Scott Hudson said. "She was a ball of energy, full of smiles," he said. "She was a friend to everyone." When Sara and her family -- which also includes mother Kim and sister Kaley -- saw that her T-cell lymphoma wasn't getting better, the Leprechaun Society wanted to put one more smile on her face. The 8-year-old girl made a wish -- she wanted to take a limo ride with as many of her friends as possible to Little Italy in Cleveland and enjoy a meal from Mama Santas -- and the Leprechaun Foundation made that wish happen. The school also bids farewell to Rose Wilson, who served as a teacher and then principal for 33 years
All Saints of St. John Vianney School has a new principal. Earlier this summer, Michael Fasciano was named to lead the 35-year-old elementary school, which is in Wickliffe. He succeeds the school’s former principal, Rose Wilson, who retired at the end of the last school year. Wilson served the school for 33 years; first as a teacher, and then as principal. Prior to joining All Saints, Fasciano served as principal of Saint Leo the Great School in Cleveland for 17 years. He was a junior high math teacher at the school for ten years before becoming principal. Fasciano’s past honors include being named Principal of the Year for the Western Region of the Cleveland Diocese. He is a recipient of the Alumni Educator Award for exemplary service in …
