Each week the Mentor Patch Moms Council answers a question on parenthood posed to them by readers or another member of council. This week our question is: It's the holiday season. Hanukkah begins this Friday; Christmas is three weeks away; Kwanzaa starts the 26th (or, at least, so says Google.) The straight-to-DVD sequel has gotten lots of reaction but it's not pretty.
Not only is A Christmas Story a holiday classic, but it's a Cleveland favorite. The original movie was filmed in Cleveland featuring the former Higbees department store and the home on W. 11th St. in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland has become a tourist destination. Fans quote lines from the movie year round and revel in the marathon showings around the holidays. But a sequel? When Warner Brothers announced a straight-to-DVD sequel A Christmas Story 2 will hit stores on Oct. 30, fans bristled. Why would anybody would mess with the nostalgic tale of a boy's yearning for a forbidden Christmas gift.
