Animal Kingdom Rules; Even Our Fastest Runner Can't Compete with the Greyhound
“Citius, Altius, Fortius” is the Olympic motto — “Faster, Higher, Stronger.” Setting goals for ourselves is important. But let's face it, human athletes don't hold a candle to animal ones in any Olympic event, let alone a torch. Take Jamaican track star Usain Bolt, who ran 37.6 kilometers per hour in the 100-meter dash of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics to claim the world record of 9.59 seconds. Throw a cheetah in there, though, and Bolt would be lunch. A cheetah reaches 112 kph. Trailing but still stealing the silver and bronze from Bolt would be a thoroughbred racehorse at 70 kph and a greyhound at 69 kph. (Yes, even a house pet outruns the fastest man on Earth.)
