Mentor Christian School was founded in 1967 with a kindergarten class. Each subsequent year, it added a grade and aMore teacher. Now, it has 150 students who range from kindergarten to 12th grade. Mentor Christian offers academic, athletic and artistic extracurriculars. Its principal is Frank Davis, who also teaches fifth grade. Mentor Christian is nondenominational and associated with Bible Community Church.

Headlands is one of 10 elementary schools in the Mentor Schools District. Its principal is Janice Price. In 2010, the Mentor School Board voted to close Headlands Elementary School at the end of the 2010-2011 school year because the school district anticipates a financial deficit, and the city does not have the population to sustain 10 elementary schools.

The city's first fire station, which is next door to the village hall, is now the Mentor Fire Museum and Safety Village.
