Eight students announce where they will study and play sports this fall
More than anything, each Mentor student-athlete signing ceremony reminds athletic director Jeff Cassella of the diverse talent pool at Mentor High School. The district hosted another of its periodic signing ceremonies Tuesday morning, allowing eight standouts to announce where they have decided to attend college. "You have golfers, lacrosse players, basketball players," Cassella said. "It just shows you, across the board, where our students and athletes are. That's what's amazing to me." Here's a quick breakdown of the students who announced their intentions on Tuesday, courtesy of the district: Jeff Foreman - Ashland University Lacey Miller - Mercyhurst North East Joan Graziano - Lake Erie College Paige Victor - Walsh University Natalie …

Teachers, principals and staff post fun video to inspire students during OAA testing
Teachers and staff at Ridge Middle School know how stressful testing can be, but they figured they had a good solution to ease their nerves. Staff, including the school's two principals, have posted a video on YouTube full of laughs, dancing, wigs and more. Though it's a cover of a song created long before any of of the students were born — 1990's "Hold On," by Wilson Phillips — it has plenty of inspirational material aimed at pushing the kids through the home stretch of the Ohio Achievement Assessments. Watch "Hold On for One More Day" by clicking above.

Fifteen acts took the stage Monday
It had been a few years since Lake Catholic High School hosted a talent show, and it showed through the audience's enthusiasm. Whether a guitarist or rap group hit the stage, the crowd filled the auditorium with cheers Monday night. The show featured 15 performances that ranged from a Bruno Mars cover to a color guard routine to a touching tribute from junior Michelle Gaw, whose mother recently passed away. Families got into the act, too. The Jones brothers, sophomore Kyle and junior Ian performed a humorous piano act, and the Brennan Singing Trio of sisters Rachel, Veronica and Emma finished the showcase with a song. Watch the video for some sights and sounds from the evening.

The video looks at "A Day in the Life" of Matthew Miller
It's been nearly a year since Matthew Miller introduced himself to the community as superintendent of Mentor Schools, but there still may be some things you don't know about him. To fill in any gaps, Prelude Photography presents a six-minute feature on Miller as part of its monthly "Day in the Life" series. The videos attempt to shed light on the backgrounds of key people in various industries and they jobs they do in the community. Prelude owner Matthew Huested produces and posts the videos on the business' Facebook page. Ever wonder what time the superintendent wakes up to fulfill his duties? How about his education or how his kids handled relocating to Mentor? It's all in Prelude's video, which can be viewed above.

The renewal levy would continue to cost the owner of a $100,000 home $22.50 per month
Residents in the Mentor Schools district will vote on an 8.8-mill renewal levy on the May 7 ballot. The renewal levy would continue to cost the owner of a $100,000 home $22.50 per month. The levy is a renewal of an existing tax, and if approved, would not raise taxes above what residents now pay. To Mentor administrators, a large part of renewing the levy would be a pledge by voters to uphold the district's "Excellent with Distinction" performance on the most recent state report card. "What our community understands is that we're performing at the highest academic level we can in the State of Ohio," Superintendent Matthew Miller said. "We have a very good, positive track record. "When looking at communities and school districts, I think …
