The seniors of Lake Catholic High School celebrated their approaching graduation with a parade
The seniors of Lake Catholic High School celebrated their upcoming graduation May 28 with a parade Wednesday. They paraded in a caravan that included about every conceivable mode of conveyance conceivable -- trucks, tractors, bobsleds and more -- from St. John Vianney Catholic Church to the school. The parade is a tradition that stretches back more than a decade for Lake Catholic seniors.

Joseph Spiccia and Edwin Klein, assistant principal at Euclid High School, are the finalists to be the Beachwood High Principal
Former Mentor High Principal Joseph Spiccia is one of two finalists being considered to become the next Beachwood High Principal. Edwin Klein, assistant principal at Euclid High School, is the other person who may replace Bob Hardis, who was recently promoted to be his district's assistant principal. Spiccia retired from Mentor High at the end of the 2010-2011 school year after eight years as principal with the district. When he retired, he intended to focus on consulting school districts about the national Race to the Top program. However, he never ruled out becoming a principal again. Mentor High School celebrated the cream of its senior class at an awards banquet Tuesday evening at the Croatian Lodge Party Center in Eastlake. The district, teachers, parents and local businesses gave the graduating seniors awards and scholarships for their hard work the last four years. Mentor Schools Board of Education Voted Matt Miller as their next superintendent during a special meeting Monday
The new Mentor Schools superintendent, Matt Miller, introduced himself during a special board meeting Monday evening at the district's administration building. Before Miller addressed the employees who attended the meeting to see him appointed, the Board of Education voted to officially make retiring Superintendent Jacqueline Hoynes' successor. "I want to thank the Board of Education for having faith in me and giving me the opportunity," Miller said. "It's honestly my dream job." Miller said he and his family had the opportunity to tour some of the schools in the district Monday and they were excited to move to the city. The students of North High School in Eastlake held their annual carnival for Broadmoor students
Students from North High School in Eastlake held a carnival for Broadmoor students Thursday. The carnival is a yearly tradition at and all of its students -- from preschoolers to individuals up to 20 years old -- come to have a good time. North students organize the event and run each of the booths. Meanwhile, Broadmoor students get to shoot hoops, try on temporary tattoos, play in the bounce castle, win prizes and more.

The Board congratulated their career-tech welding program students and Mr. Basketball during their meeting Tuesday
The Mentor Schools Board of Education recognized several of their students during their meeting Tuesday night at Mentor High School. The students who were honored include: "I've had the pleasure of watching this young man play basketball for the last four years," Superintendent Jacqueline Hoynes said, "and I'm proud of him as a basketball player and as a person." Fritts averaged 28.1 points, eight rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.9 assists per game and was the leader of a Cardinals team that went 22-3 and advanced to the Div. 1 regional tournament. He ends his Cardinal career with 1,692 points -- second most in the school's history. Fritts is an excellent 2-sport athlete and has committed to playing both basketball and baseball at Wheeling …

The Mentor Schools Board of Education honored the district's retiring Superintendent Jacqueline Hoynes during their meeting Tuesday evening at Mentor High School. They announced that the Cardinal Autism Resource Education School would be renamed the Dr. Jacqueline A. Hoynes School in honor of her 30 years working at the district and for her 10 years as superintendent. During the meeting, School Board President Alan Mihok listed the many changes to the district Hoynes has overseen during her tenure. Mihok joked that the list of accomplishments was so long that he tried to pare it. "But every one I read, I said, 'We can't cut that out. We can't cut that out,'" Mihok said.
