Man Sentenced To Prison For Driving While Drunk With Loaded Gun In Car

Richard Showman apologized to the judge, Lake County and family during his sentencing

Richard Showman made no excuses when he was sentenced Thursday morning in Lake County Court of Common Pleas. It was the seventh time he had been convicted of drunken driving. He had also pleaded guilty to having a loaded gun in the car at the time. "I take full responsibilities for my actions," he told Judge Eugene Lucci. "I want to apologize to Lake County, to my family and to the court for taking up your valuable time." Showman's attorney, Patrick Quinn, said he had been sober for 11 years when he fell off the wagon. (His last drunken driving conviction before he was arrested by Mentor Police in October was in 1998.) Personal problems led to depression, which caused Showman to relapse, Quinn said. Authorities Find Raymond Gabor Jr. In Mentor Lagoons

Mentor man had been missing since Monday afternoon

Authorities found Raymond Gabor Jr. at about 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Mentor Lagoon Nature Preserve. Members of the Lagoons' Courtesy Patrol saw a man who matched Gabor's description running through the woods so the called police, Mentor Police Lt. Dan Molnar said. When police spotted Gabor, he came along willingly, Molnar added Gabor, 45, of Mentor had been missing since Monday afternoon when he abruptly left work. Gabor’s truck was located at the trail area of the Mentor Lagoons and he was seen at about 7:45 p.m. Monday in the area of Mentor Lagoons beach. The Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve has reopened while Mentor Police continue to search for Mentor resident, Raymond R. Gabor Jr., who has been missing since 1 p.m. Monday "After a thorough search of the area, by land and air, we have been unable to locate any sign of Mr. Gabor," Mentor Police Chief Daniel Llewellyn said in a statement. "We will continue the investigation as we continue to be concerned about his personal safety. Gabor, 45, left work abruptly Monday afternoon. Man Dies In Hospital After He Is Hit By Train In Mentor

A man passed away Tuesday morning in MetroHealth Medical Center from injuries he suffered after he was struck by a train Thursday evening in Mentor. Zlatko Rosandic, 52, of Eastlake, was working at one of his two jobs that evening. He was on his coffee break and went to cross the CSX tracks at the dead end of Industrial Parkway, Mentor Fire Battalion Chief Joe Busher said the night of the collision. Mentor Police are still investigating how the crash occurred. Authorities think Rosandic was crossing the tracks so he could get something to eat or drink from a nearby restaurant. Rosandic was taken to Lake West Medical Center. From there, he was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Busher said that, by all appearances, the …

Woman Accused Of Stealing From Bank, Passing Bad Checks

Jennifer Evans was arrested on a warrant Sunday

A Mentor woman is accused of using bad checks to steal $4,388 from Huntington Bank. From Oct. 31 to Nov. 7 last year, Jennifer Evans is suspected of cashing a trio of bad checks and then immediately withdrawing the money from the bank before the fraudulent deposits could be discovered, Mentor Police Lt. Dan Molnar said. Mentor Police arrested Evans, 37, on a warrant Sunday and charged her with a felony count of theft and passing bad checks. Officers found a glass smoking pipe on Evans when they arrested her, so they also charged her with possession of drug paraphernalia, Molnar said. Mentor Municipal Court Judge John Trebets arraigned Evans Monday morning. He set her bond at $20,000, which was not posted. Evans' next court date is …

Man Is In Critical Condition After Being Struck By Train

A man is in critical but stable condition in the hospital after he was struck by a train Thursday in Mentor. Zlatko Rosandic, 52, of Eastlake, was working at one of his two jobs that evening. Man Admits To Role In Auto Theft Ring

A Bedford Heights man admitted to being part of a tri-county auto theft ring that Mentor Police helped to crack in March. John Jones, 41, pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in a pattern of corrupt behavior, grand theft and two counts of receiving stolen property Friday in Lake County Common Pleas Judge Eugene Lucci's court room. Lucci did not sentence Jones Friday. Instead, he asked for a victim-impact statement and scheduled the sentencing for May 31. Technically, Jones could receive any punishment from community control to 4 1/2 years in prison. However, the judge made it clear that Jones would be going behind bars. "With your record, you have a snowball's chance in hell of getting community control," Lucci said. Jones told the judge…

Man Facing Abduction, Assault Charges After Fight With Girlfriend

A man faces criminal charges after a fight about if he could use his girlfriend's car turned violent, Mentor Police Lt. Tim Allen. James L. Brown Jr., 29, of Painesville, was at his girlfriend's apartment in Mentor Tuesday when the argument began. At some point, the argument became violent, Allen said. The woman told police that Brown grabbed her by the neck, threw her onto a bed, held her there, poured lotion on her, smacked her in the cheek with his hand and hit her in the forehead with his cell phone. When the police talked to the woman, she was at Lake West Medical Center in Willoughby and she had red marks on her face.
