Mentor Football, Holi & More: Five Things on the Web

Here are five items posted online by community groups to keep you updated on activities, school finances, football and more.

There's plenty going on in Mentor and organizations around the city are utilizing the Web to let you see what you've missed. Here are a few items posted in the past week to keep you updated on what's happening in your city.

1. The Mentor Cardinals' week 1 matchup with Erie McDowell is fast approaching, and excitement for the upcoming season is spreading throughout the community.

The team hosted its annual "Media Day" event Saturday, introducing players, coaches and cheerleaders from the varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams. Players also posed for a few photos with some of the area's pumped-up fans. Visit the Mentor Football Redline Football Club's Facebook page to see photos from the event.

2. Things got messy at the Mentor Public Library's Read House Friday when area children learned about the Indian holiday, Holi. They also participated in the ritual of tossing powder into the air and on one another. Check out the colorful photos on the library's Facebook page.

3. Can you believe the Mentor Sparkles are already entering their third season? Mentor Schools posted some photos from a recent practice as the group prepared for the upcoming year.

4. Are you an Instagram user? Do you like cute dogs? If so, Lake Humane Society has just the hashtag for you. If you missed the 2013 Mutt Strut this weekend, you can still take a look at the dogs who were up for adoption. Simply launch Instagram on your iPhone or Android and search the hashtag #LHSMuttStrut.

5. All summer, Mentor Schools has updated its "Financial Facts" series online, in attempt to educate that helped it pass levies in May. The most recent post shows a graph depicting how much the district depends on state aid.
