Lake Catholic Reinforces Lenten Spirit with Soup Kitchen

A deliberately spartan lunch of soup and bread reminds Lake Catholic students of the purpose of Lent

Some people volunteer at soup kitchens during Lent.

, however, will host one for their students to remind them of the Lenten spirit of sacrifice.

Students will be served a deliberately spartan meal of vegetable soup and bread Thursday.

"We do this, in part, to remind them that not everybody has enough to eat," Lake Catholic President Sal Miroglotta said.

The soup kitchen is an annual tradition at Lake Catholic that began before Miroglotta's tenure. It also serves as a fundraiser for local food pantries and soup kitchens.

Students, teachers and parents donate the ingredients for the soup, so all the lunch money from Thursday will go to the St. Augustine Hunger Center in Cleveland.

"It helps students to appreciate that our role in life is to help others," Miroglotta said.
