Recreation Department Accepting Walk-Ons for 'Mentor's Got Talent'

Few registrants have led the Mentor Recreation Department to accept walk-ons for the annual talent showcase

It's not too late for Mentor children to showcase their talent for the community.

The recreation department will accept walk-ons for "Mentor's Got Talent," which begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The department usually has at least 20 acts, but only six have registered. Special events coordinator Maggie Kuyasa thinks the Fourth of July holiday had something to do with that.

"I'd like to let people know that we're here and you can sign up," she said.

Whether they want to sing, dance, juggle or make the crowd laugh, children, ages 4 to 17, can sign up for the event beginning at 9:30 a.m. The event will be held at Civic Center Amphitheater.

Walmart is sponsoring the event and will provide gift-card prizes for first-, second- and third-place winners, Kuyasa said.
