First-ever Beachfest featured kayaking, jet ski rescues, live music and more
Despite a constant rain Saturday, a more than 100 people flowed into Headlands throughout the day to enjoy the first-ever Mentor Beachfest.
"We're on a beach anyways so we planned on getting wet," said Adam Congar as he and his friend roamed the beach to and from different activities.
The festival, which was from 11 a.m to 7 p.m., included live music, paddle board and kayak lessons, a sandcastle-building competition and kite flying.
Beachfest cost roughly $21,000 for the city to host and more than $17,000 was paid for by sponsors, which include Lake Health, Lake National Bank, Lake County Visitor’s Bureau Arts & Culture Grant,Great Lakes Publishing, The News-Herald, and Mentor Patch.
"It seemed like fun," said Ryan Martinez, who drove from Napoleon, Ohio. "Everyone seems to be having fun despite the rain."
