National Weather Service Issues Heat Warning For Holiday

Heat index will break into the triple digits on the Fourth of July

The National Weather Service has issued a heat warning for the region that will be in effect until 9 p.m. today.

The heat index is expected to reach between 100 and 104 F during the afternoon and early evening hours today.

People should be careful to stay hydrated today -- that means plenty of nonalcoholic fluids. (Sorry to be a bummer but beer and other alcoholic drinks are desiccants.)

Revelers should also be weary of spending too much time in the sun today.

That doesn't mean you can't have a good Fourth of July -- just mix time spent outside with time in the shade or, even better, in air conditioning.
