Lake Catholic Leadership Campers Help Mentor Homeowner

The seventh and eighth graders ended camp by placing flowerbeds, chopping trees and more for a 78-year-old Mentor homeowner.

While most in the community sought air-conditioned comfort Friday, a group of children in Lake Catholic High's Leadership Camp lent helping hands to a Mentor homeowner.

A dozen or so incoming seventh and eighth graders from the area helped 78-year-old Bill Snyder by painting his Cedarwood Road home, installing front and back flowerbeds, chopping trees and more. The camp was organized by a group of Lake Catholic 2013 graduates during the senior year with the instruction of teacher John Ellis.

"These kids are really doing a heck of a job," said Snyder, who was introduced to Ellis by a neighbor. "It helps me out a lot because it's too much for one person.

"Those kids are really working their butts off. They do a fine job."

Leadership campers like Mark Jankowski was pleased to be involved.

"I think it's important because a lot of people need help and I want to be one of the people that helps them," he said.
