Kids Build, Launch Catapults at Mentor Public Library

Winning team got ice cream as part of Excavation Station series

Kids at the Mentor-on-the-Lake branch of the Mentor Public Library built and launched catapults Tuesday as part of the library's Excavation Station series, which encourage hands-on learning through building.

Nine teams competed to hit a target the greatest number of times, and the winning team won ice cream cones from Biggie's Custard in Mentor-on-the-Lake.

“I started this series because I think a kid who knows how to build things has a much higher confidence level than a kid who doesn’t,” Library Associate Lyndsey Gvora, who organized the event, said in a press release.

Gvora added that she hoped the children wanted to build more after constructing their catapults.

“I hope at least some of them say, ‘Wow, I never built that before and now I think I can do some other things.'"
