Kickball For A Cancer Cure & Wine For Dogs: A Weekend Planner

There is a lot happening this lovely weekend; don't waste a minute

Where/When: The tournament begins 11 a.m. Friday at .

Why Go: This event is perfect for anyone who likes kickball or hates cancer (and I'd like to think that most of humanity does both.)

Lake Catholic is hosting a kickball tournament that raises money for cancer research and treatment, as well as for the families of a who are fighting cancer.

You don't have to play kickball if you go. You can listen to the DJ, play cornhole and watch the games.

No matter what, it's a good event for a great cause.

Pricing: Free to attend but you can always donate.

2. 

Where/When: noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, Grand River Cellars in Madison Township

Why Go: This the third year that  has held the fundraiser that should please animal and wine lovers alike.

For only $10, people can bring their leashed dogs to enjoy a tour of Grand River Cellars in Madison Township.

Guests can also enjoy wine tastings, a silent auction and more.

Additionally, for every bottle of wine sold, the winery will give $1 to the Mentor animal shelter.

3. 

Where/When: 2 p.m., Sunday, 

Why Go: Help take part in the long standing celebration of America's magnificent trail system and its countless supporters and volunteers.

Lend a hand as volunteers "spruce" up two miles of the Zimmerman Trail -- part of the Buckeye Trail -- in the Mentor Marsh.

Tools will be provided but please wear sturdy footwear and bring work gloves.

Volunteers will meet at the Mentor Marsh Nature Center at 2 p.m. Sunday on June 3.

4. 

Where/When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Garfield Cabin next to Village Hall (4350 Som Center Road) in Mooreland Hills

Why Go: OK, this event isn't in Mentor but it does feature the city's most famous native.

The Moreland Hills Historical Society invites everyone to meet President James A. Garfield and his wife, Lucretia Garfield for a Living History Experience this Saturday at the Garfield Cabin next to Village Hall.

The first couple will be there to share conversation with children and adults. Refreshments will be served.
