Weekend-long encampment feature firing demonstration, live music and exhibits

History came alive this past weekend at the James A. Garfield National Historic Site as people around the region visited an encampment to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Reenactors ranging from soldiers to generals and presidents attended, including then-general James A. Garfield, President Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas, who answered questions from visitors about their role in the Civil War.

Attractions ranged from live firing and marching demonstrations, a musical performance by Camp Chase Fifes and Drums, and a mini militia where children could wear uniforms, hold wooden rifles and learn to march.
